Relatione de' sponsali fatti in Modena della Reale Maestà della Regina de' Romani, giovedi 15. gen. 1699.

Anonymous account of the wedding ceremonies held in Modena for the marriage of Joseph of Habsburg, son of Emperor Leopold I and Wilhelmina Amalia of Brunswick, sister-in-law of Duke Rinaldo d'Este, from January 15th to 18th, 1699, followed by one week of more private parties in Bologna. The wedding ceremony was celebrated by proxy in the chapel of the ducal palace, the groom being represented by the duke of Modena. A sumptuous dinner was offered by the duke, followed by a ball. The bride cancelled the joust scheduled for next day, and made a short appearance in the evening. A mass attended by hosts and guests on Sunday 18th closed the Mantua celebrations. Valuable gifts were distributed to servants, then all the guests departed for Bologna the same day. The rest of the account describes the banquets, balls and other parties offered daily by Bolognese nobles, such as the marquesses Andoni Pepoli, Zambeccari and Albergati, or the counts Altobrandi and Ercole Pepoli. The presence of the bride and the Duke of Modena in Bologna is not mentioned. The author was writing his account on Wednesday 21, but he listed all the parties scheduled up to Sunday 25. He is delighted with the wagons that keep bringing plenty of game and excellent wine from the Grand Duke of Tuscany. The manuscript has no formal ending and no signature.
